(Kuala Lumpur, 23rd) Ma Guifu, president of the Malaysian Bird’s Nest General Chamber of Commerce, said that the Sarawak Forestry Corporation’s move to confiscate all bird’s nests from 4 bird’s nest merchants has caused panic among swallow farmers across the country. The association therefore appeals to the swallow farmers to remain calm and abide by the law, and It is time to fight for the due rights and interests of the bird's nest industry.
He said that all representatives of the Sarawak Bird’s Nest Organization Association will have a dialogue with the Sarawak Forest Enterprise Organization and listen to the authorities’ explanations and reports on the 30th of this month.
"Everyone must remain calm and must abide by the relevant regulations."
Ma Guifu issued a statement today saying that the above-mentioned incident was related to the policy of the Sarawak Forest Enterprise Organization requiring operators to apply for registration of swiftlet houses and licenses for buying and selling bird’s nests.
"This matter can be explained clearly to the relevant Yan merchants first, and they are required to abide by the law so as not to confiscate the goods!"
He pointed out that if the incident is due to Yannong’s failure to apply for the registration of MyGAP and ID system, the association is willing to assist the relevant Yannong to quickly apply for registration, but also requests the Sarawak Forest Enterprise Organization to give approval as soon as possible.
He also urged the authorities to allow all swiftlet houses established in the urban area to apply for registration, and to suspend the crackdown on swiftlet houses and bird’s nest dealers.
"Of course, the Sarawak Forestry Corporation has the right to protect the swallows. We Yan farmers must abide by the regulations set by it, not to harm the swallows, and not to capture the swallows and keep them in birdcages."
Ma Guifu suggested that the representatives of various Sarawak bird's nest organization associations should unite and have a dialogue with the Sarawak Forest Enterprise Organization, or visit them and submit a memorandum to ensure that Sarawak's bird's nest farmers and those engaged in the bird's nest business can be more tolerant.
